So many of our Yoga students come to us with problems in their neck and shoulders. The pain is caused by sitting at desks for long hours, driving and working on increasingly small keyboards and devices. This all causes a collapse in the upper body, rolling the arm bones inwards, collapsing the chest cavity and allowing the head to fall forwards.
While massage can be helpful to alleviate the tension put on the shoulders, unless the structure is managed, the situation will not change. The trapezeus may feel like the culprit, but it is the victim in all this. Lax rhomboids, tight scalenes and pec minor all contribute to this cascade of collapse.
The following 10 minute sequence is great to do every day to begin to manage the postural elements of your neck and shoulder pain. Combine this with massage and you will get more bang for your buck! If you have a desk job, do shoulder shrugs every hour! Also, why not book in with one of our Forrest Yoga specialists for a 30 minute Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage.
